Ultraviolet
Light destroys bacteria naturally
Ultraviolet
light is a natural component of sunlight, falling just
below the visible light region of the electromagnetic
spectrum. Higher energy wavelengths of UV light have
the unique ability to destroy micro-organisms (bacteria,
viruses, cysts, etc.) in water or air, stopping the
ability to multiply and cause infection and illness.

| Unlike
chemical disinfectants, which rely on chemical oxidation
to disrupt the life functions of
micro-organisms, UV is simply light energy that cripples
the DNA of harmful organisms.
By
disabling their DNA the life functions of these organisms
are interrupted, rendering them harmless. Because no
chemicals are involved, you don’t have to worry
about drinking harmful chemicals or their by-products.
Typical applications of UV water treatment include municipal drinking water supplies, private water supplies, aquariums, industrial water processes and hospitals. |

How does the Fresh Water Filter system work?
Fresh Water Filter water sterilisers employ a low-pressure mercury vapour discharge lamp surrounded by a water jacket whose inner wall is made from a special UVC-transparent quartz metal. The lamp produces a very strong spectral line at 254nm in the shortwave UVC region, which is the waveband most lethal to micro-organisms.
The UV light shines powerfully through water passing along the unit, destroying the cell DNA (or RNA in the case of viruses) making the micro-organisms inactive.
Fresh Water Filter units use a stainless steel water chamber maximising full use of the available ultra-violet energy, resulting in long exposure times and high UV doses and minimising UV light absorption into the chamber wall.
