The Fresh Water Filter system is designed to provide a convenient and consistent supply of healthy, good tasting drinking water at the point of use.

The water filter cartridge supplied with your filter is a highly efficient water treatment device employed to provide safe water all over the world. Technically advanced materials are used in its construction:

1. An outer shell of porous ceramic capable of trapping water-borne contaminants below one micron in size, including rust, sediment, protozoan cysts and pathogenic bacteria.
2. Silver, anchored within the ceramic acts as a disinfectant preventing the growth of any dangerous bacteria that become trapped in the ceramic shell.
3. A core of ‘Matrikx’, an advanced carbon composite in the form of a porous cylinder. Recently developed in the USA this material is highly effective against chlorine and a wide range of organic contaminants
4. 2 grades of granular activated carbon for removing a further range of organic pollutants including trihalomethanes, herbicides, pesticides poly-aromatic hydrocarbons etc
5. Selective ion exchange resin to remove a whole spectrum of heavy metals

The cartridge does not remove minerals considered essential to good health and taste. It is not designed to act as a water softener.
When water is boiled, calcium, one of these essential minerals, forms a limescale deposit on the inside of the kettle and causes an unsightly but harmless film on the surface of hot drinks. A small number of our new customers upgrading from a jug filter to our system are disappointed to find that they have lost the benefit of the limescale reduction the jug filter provides. Without being dismissive of the hard water problem we hope they will agree this inconvenience is far out weighed by the benefits offered by the Fresh Water Filter system.

In comparison to the Fresh Water Filter system the performance of a jug filter is essentially cosmetic. The jug filter is not a true water purifier. True the mixture of carbon fragments and iron exchange resin granules the sachets contain reduce the hardness and chlorine but it has no capability against pathogenic bacteria and little effect against sediment and chemicals.

We are sympathetic to those of our customers inconvenienced by the problems associated with hard water and offer the following solutions for consideration.

1. A simple way to enjoy the benefit of high quality drinking water without the problem of surface film on hot drinks is to purchase one of the electric kettles incorporating a filter screen, such as the Philips Filterline.
2. Combine the above with occasional overnight use of de-scaling fluid in the kettle to keep it free from limescale.
3. Install a water softener. This is a ‘whole house’ solution to hardness problems but unfortunately the most expensive one.

D) Installation of a second filter housing containing a ‘De-Alk’ cartridge code D-25_SM. This unit is available to existing customers at a special price. When installed alongside the existing filter housing will provide a solution to the hard water problem while retaining the advanced filtration performance of the “Pearl” cartridge. However, we cannot guarantee the life of the De-Alk cartridge as it will vary according to the degree of harness in your area and the volume amount of water used.
